Ageless Advice for a Lifetime Support

No matter what decade you're in, there's a plenty you should be doing to protect your heart. Your heart is YOU , thus you need to follow these guidelines.

Quit Smoking
Smoking is a vice which is really hard to say goodbye. Practice independence and self-discipline. Cigarettes increase blood pressure and plaque build-up in the arteries and decrease levels of HDL, the good cholesterol.

Eat Well
Healthy diet plays a major role in maintaining one's health. Remember, You are what You eat. Cook with heart-healthy mono-unsaturated oils, such as olive and canola. If you love red meat, do eat infrequently and go lean. If you drink milk and consume dairy, opt for skim or low-fat. Use butter sparingly. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, nuts and legumes.

Pay Attention to Portion Sizes
Think of your plate in 3 sections: one for protein (the size and thickness of a deck of cards), one for carbohydrates (the size of your fist), and one for vegetables, especially leafy greens.

Stay Active
Exercise is the best indulgence to keep us fit. Aim for at least three to five 30-minutes of stints of heart rate-raising exercise a week, and add them to your calendar. Regular work-outs keep blood vessels in good shape and pumping efficiently.

When it comes to eating right and exercising, there is no "I'll start tomorrow." Tomorrow is disease. ~V.L. Allineare
